I’m a fan of musicals and I wouldn’t forgive myself if I let the musical Bituing Walang Ningning pass without me watching it. So one rainy evening, together with music-loving friends, we trooped to the Newport Performing Arts Theater at Resorts World Manila.
Cris Villonco, who played Lavinia (played by Cherie Gil in the movie) was superb! In my opinion, it was her and Jon Santos (who played her adoptive parent) carried the play. They gave life to their characters and made them relatable, relevant and funny/ serious at the same time. They made the audience fall in love with them as the story progresses. Of course, the whole cast should be commended as their energy’s infectious. Theater veterans like Menchu Lauchengco and Michael Williams definitely own the stage. What came out as a surprise for me was Ronnie Liang. He was able to hold his own among the more senior members of the cast.
We’re one happy bunch.
